Cardiff is gearing up to host its first Safer Capital Festival on Saturday 11th September. This emergency services and community safety spectacular promises to be a fun day out for all the family and it’s free of charge to attend.

With an array of over 50 attractions, ranging from an underwater search and rescue exercise, dog and horse handling displays and an abseiling demonstration down the side of City Hall by the Police’s Specialist Search team, to dance acts from around the world, fairground rides and flight simulator, emergency services vehicles, the BBC’s Tardis and music and entertainment hosted by Red Dragon; the Safer Capital Festival is likely to tempt thousands of visitors from all over South Wales.

The event is open to the public from 11am on Saturday 11th September and its being staged outside City Hall in Cardiff’s City Centre. Guest appearances will also be made by Shannon Hope from the Cardiff Devils and retired Welsh super middleweight and light heavyweight boxer Nicky Piper.

Also included in the entertainment, visitors will find a mix of interactive displays and exhibits from Safer Capital partners Cardiff Council, South Wales Police, St John’s Ambulance Service, Crimestoppers, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, the Army and many more with the aim of keeping people safe, informed and aware of the services available to them.

A raffle is being held and prizes range from signed sports shirts and John Lewis gift vouchers to an overnight stay and breakfast for two in Swansea’ Village Hotel and a champagne meal for two at Cardiff Hilton - all of which have been kindly donated by John Lewis, the Village Hotel (Swansea), Cardiff Hilton, Cardiff City FC, Cardiff Devils and Pugh’s Garden Centre. All proceeds from the day will be going to the event’s nominated charity, Youth Trust.

Refreshments and toilet facilities are also available on site.

Cllr Judith Woodman, who co-chairs the Safer Capital partnership with Chief Superintendant Bob Tooby, said:

“The Safer Capital partnership is made up of many agencies and services and this event will show case some of the diverse functions they each provide and how we work together to ensure that Cardiff remains a safe place to live, work and visit.

“We want people to see what we are doing to reduce crime and disorder in Cardiff and ensure they stay safe whilst having a very enjoyable day and, hopefully, this event will provide that opportunity.”

Divisional Commander for Cardiff, Chief Superintendant Bob Tooby adds:

“Safer Capital is a huge success for joined up working between the Local Authority, Health, Educations and various other partners. It has already won National awards for being a genuine partnership success and it is now mirrored by other areas around the UK.
“Cardiff BCU and South Wales Police are delighted to be part of the Safer Capital partnership and believe that the service provided to the community is improving on a daily basis. This Fun Day will hopefully provide a great day of entertainment and acknowledge the support of the community”
