Cyncoed burglary & sexual assault: Police Appeal

POLICE in Cardiff are appealing for information regarding a sexual assault that occurred during a house burglary in the Cyncoed area of the city.

The burglary at Bettws-y-Coed Road happened during the early hours of Friday, December 2.

The suspect gained entry through a back door of the house and then entered the bedroom of the owners who were asleep at the time.

He sexually touched the female occupant while she was sleep causing her to wake-up and the intruder left.

Detective Inspector Terry Lee said:  “It is extremely worrying that this individual was not only prepared to enter a room where the occupants were asleep but also to have sexually assaulted the female.”

“She was not injured but is understandably disturbed by what has taken place in her own home.”

A full investigation is underway and detectives have now released CCTV of a man seen in the vicinity of the property at the time of the incident.

They are appealing for information on his identity and anyone who recognises him, or the individual himself, is asked to contact police immediately.

DI Lee, from Rumney CID, added: “This is a very unusual type of offence and we are doing all we can to identify and arrest the man responsible.

“Extra patrols are being carried out in the area and as always would remind homeowners of the importance of ensuring all doors and windows are locked particularly at night.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Rumney CID on 029 20774233 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111
