Statement re Football Arrests and Banning Orders

Following the release of arrest figures for the 2010/11 football season from the Home Office, please see below a statement from South Wales Police:

“The latest arrest figures speak for themselves – both the Liberty Stadium and Cardiff City Stadium are safe and family-friendly venues in which to watch football.
“The reduction, and low, number of arrests particularly at the home games is the result of a combination of factors – the good behaviour of the fans, the stewarding and effective policing.
“All those involved can be very proud of themselves.
“The high number of banning orders is a reflection of the proactive work carried out between South Wales Police and the two clubs.
“The overwhelming majority of Swansea City and Cardiff City fans are well-behaved and passionate about their team.
“However, whenever there is evidence of football-related disorder or violence we always pursue those responsible in order that appropriate action is taken and as a result banning orders in this area are markedly higher than other clubs.
“South Wales Police will relentlessly pursue and prosecute offenders whether they commit offences in Cardiff, Swansea or around the United Kingdom.
“We wish both clubs continued success is 2012.”
