South Wales Police

Central Commander

County Borough of Bridgend & Vale of Glamorgan (Central) Commander

Chief Superintendent Carl Davies
Chief Superintendent Carl Davies

Hello, I am Carl Davies and I am the Chief Superintendent in charge of the Central Division of South Wales Police, which includes the Vale of Glamorgan and the County Borough of Bridgend.

I consider myself to be fortunate to work here in the Central Division and I am very proud of the area I serve.  As the commander of this newly enlarged division I want to draw upon the excellent work which has already been achieved and continue to make the area an even safer place for us all.

The Division has been strengthened with the appointment of an additional Superintendent.  The Vale of Glamorgan will be under the command of Superintendent Liane James whilst Bridgend will be commanded by Superintendent Steve Furnham.

We are committed to developing our work with all members of our communities to raise the satisfaction and confidence people have in South Wales Police. We want the residents of Bridgend and the Vale to continue about their daily business without becoming a victim of crime or fearing crime.

Central Division has a population of more than a quarter of a million people and ranges from the dramatic Heritage Coastline of south Wales northwards to the beautiful Ogmore and Garw valleys.  Cardiff International Airport is also situated within the area.

While Central Division covers a large and diverse area I am determined that we continue to work closely with our community safety partners in Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan to provide a citizen-focused service to solve local problems through working with our communities.  By working together we can make a real difference.

The enlarged Division provides the public with added resilience and resources.  So far this year we have significantly reduced crime (12.8 per cent reduction in the Vale of Glamorgan and 6.5 per cent reduction in Bridgend) with more than 1700 fewer victims of crime across the Division in 2009 -10 compared to last year.

We are also working to improve our quality of service to the public and the way we communicate with our neighbourhoods and communities.

Our police officers and police community support officers are patrolling your neighbourhood and working to achieve a safe and secure environment for you to work, live and visit.  If there are any issues which are having an impact upon your quality of life, stop them and talk to them about it – they will listen to you and help you.  You can find your own neighbourhood officers’ mobile phone numbers on ourbobby.com
