Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, public authorities have to produce a publication scheme. As of 1st January 2009 the Information Commissioner has introduced a new Model Publication Scheme that applies to all public authorities. A definition document was also produced to accompany the new model publication scheme for police forces.
South Wales Police are committed to delivering an open and transparent service whenever possible and it is our intention to publish information in our Publication Scheme that the public have an interest in viewing. However, as we are committed to protecting the communities we serve, preventing and detecting crime, it must be recognised that certain information should not be disclosed in the public interest.
Aim of the Scheme
The aim of the Publication Scheme is to set out:
-
What information South Wales Police publishes or intends to publish as a matter of course,
-
How we will publish this information,
-
Whether the information will be available free of charge or on payment.
At present, South Wales Police are gathering the relevant content as stipulated within the defined information classes of the new publication scheme. South Wales Police is updating its web site to ensure all available and relevant information is available to the public. In the interim, please contact the Freedom of Information Department either by email (foi@south-wales.pnn.police.uk) or telephone (01656 869437) to request information under the publication scheme if you cannot find it on the website.
South Wales Police is committed to making the information available and will endeavour to provide the public with the information in line with the statements contained within the scheme at the earliest possible date.
