PCSO

Police Community Support Officer

Essentially, a Police Community Support Officer is what it says on the tin. It’s all about providing that vital link between the community and the police service to make sure everyone has the support they need.

By engaging with the people on your patch, you will take the initiative to seek out what the public want and what South Wales Police can do to get results.

Whether it’s stopping speeding outside our schools, reporting vandalism, or reducing antisocial behaviour, your work will make a real difference in keeping South Wales safe.

Expect to:

  • Forge long-lasting relationships between the community and the police service
  • Help police officers to reduce crime and the fear of crime
  • Conduct high visibility foot patrols
  • Gather intelligence on suspects and deal with minor offences
  • Provide security at major events

PCSOs don’t have powers to arrest, but are instead armed with excellent communication skills to protect the community in a non-confrontational capacity.

As an addition to the policing family, your constant presence in the neighbourhood will free other resources to deal with more serious crime.
