Pre-Induction Training Module

Police Officer - Pre-Induction Training Module - PAIM

The majority of your training will take place once you have officially joined South Wales Police as a Police Officer, but if you are successful at the Assessment Centre, there is a module of training which you are required to complete prior to joining.

The Pre-Induction Module is designed to introduce you to the Police Service. It will enable you to understand the origins, nature and importance of the legal and ethical responsibilities placed upon police officers.

The level of study reflects what you would undertake as a Student Officer, allowing us to judge whether you will be able to undertake Higher Education learning if appointed.

It includes two assessments:

  • A one-hour test involving both multiple-choice and extended response questions
  • A short essay on one of two topics

The outcome of these assessments will form part of the selection procedure for recruitment into South Wales Police.

The PAIM – Pre And Induction Module takes place over four consecutive Saturdays. You must attend the first Saturday (unless prior arrangements made). The assessment consists of a 1200 word essay on a policing topic provided during the course. The PAIM is designed to introduce you to the Police Service. The content is wide-ranging and highly relevant to your training, and designed to reflect the level of study you would undertake as a Student Officer.
