Four jailed following Swansea knife incident

Four men have been jailed after they were involved in violent disorder in Swansea city centre which resulted in multiple people sustaining stab wounds.

Officers were called to a report of an ongoing disturbance at St. Helen’s Road, Sandfields, Swansea at around 10:15pm on Wednesday September 24.

20-year-old Mohabat Adreemzai, from Barry, Vale of Glamorgan and three men from Swansea - 19-year-old Yasir Aryan from Brynmill, 24-year-old Mahfuz Uddin from Waun Wen and 26-year-old Mohammed Uddin from Townhill were all later arrested in connection with the incident, which left three people in hospital.

Adreemzai and Mahfuz Uddin pleaded not guilty to violent disorder and possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place, but were found guilty of both offences. Aryan was found guilty of violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. Mohammed Uddin was found guilty of violent disorder. 

Mahfuz Uddin has been sentenced to 39 months in prison. Mohabat Adreemzai has been sentenced to 36 months in prison. Mohammed Uddin has been jailed for 24 months, while Yasir Aryan has been sentenced to 21 months.

Detective Constable Corrie Lawford said:

“These were extremely violent scenes involving a large group of young men which hold no place on the streets of Swansea.

“Knives ruin lives, and in this case, they have resulted in four men going to prison. We have just marked Knife Crime Awareness Week, so this sentencing comes at a fitting time. It shows that we will catch anyone involved in knife crime in our communities, and we will bring them to justice.”
