A man from Swansea has been jailed after stalking and assaulting his former partner.
20-year-old Saman Ismail, from Sandfields, assaulted his ex-partner following their relationship after taking her phone and reading her messages. The prolonged assault saw him slap and headbutt the victim multiple times, pull her hair and pour water over her. He also kicked her to the chest.
Following this, Ismail began stalking the victim, following her, turning up to her place of work, constantly ringing her phone and setting up fake accounts to contact her on social media.
Ismail’s assaults led the victim to sustain a black eye and multiple bruises to her face and body.
In January last year, Ismail pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and stalking involving serious alarm/distress. In October he was found guilty of both offences following trial.
He was also found guilty of Section 18 wounding with intent after attacking a man he believed to be romantically involved with his ex-partner on Wind Street in September 2024.
Ismail has been sentenced to a total of six years in a young offenders institution.
PC Abbie Coles said:
“Saman Ismail is a violent man who launched an abhorrent campaign of violence, stalking and intimidation against his former partner.
“This made the victim’s life hell and she will have felt unable to escape him. This violence was not just limited to her either – as Ismail proved when he attacked someone he thought she had a relationship with.
“He is very jealous and dangerous and was highly likely to continue to offend before officers caught up with him. It is good to see he has received this sentence.”
